Anyone else love charms and studs? I do! So when I saw the nautical themed charm set on Born Pretty I knew I had to have it.
The wheel has a really good selection of charms:
- 4 different shells
There is only 1 turtle charm but it is pretty special so it isn’t too much of an issue. The larger charms (mermaid, seahorse & anchor) come in pairs. The starfish and shells are available in gold and silver and there are more of each available.
The mermaid is curved at the back allowing a good fit on your nail. I attached these using a top coat but for longer wear I would recommend nail glue to secure. Should you choose the top coat method to attach follow these steps, 1. Paint nail in your desired colour 2. Paint a layer of top coat over the base polish 3. While the top coat is still tacky carefully place the charm and press down to secure 4. This step is for the smaller charms i.e shells, add another layer of top coat to add extra hold.
I wanted to create a sea effect on the nails as a base for these charms so opted for the trusty cling film (plastic wrap) technique. If you haven’t heard of or tried this method it is very simple. Paint your base colour, this will need to be the colour you want to show most of in the finished product. Once dry scrunch up a ball of cling film, brush your second colour onto the cling film and dab onto the nail. If you keep dabbing the cling film it will begin to take the polish off as it becomes tacky so when you are happy stop there. If you want more colours repeat as you wish, I used 2 colours to create this effect a darker blue than my base and a white. A top coat will smooth the finish.
